Change of plans for Mineola child sex ring defendant

TYLER, TX (KLTV) - TYLER, TX (KLTV) - A defendant in the so-called Mineola child sex ring case appeared in court Thursday. Dennis Pittman was hoping to have his trial moved out of Smith County.

In a surprising move, Pittman's attorney told the court, there was no need for a "change of venue".

Defense Attorney Jason Cassel also requested that Pittman's trial start next week as scheduled.

Jury selection for Pittman's trial will begin a week from Thursday.

He is being tried on charges of aggravated sexual assault of a child and engaging in organized criminal activity.
