Heavy rains this morning in parts of East Texas

Posted by StormTracker Meteorologist Michael Hetrick

Strong showers and thunderstorms developed rapidly across the central sections of East Texas this morning.  This activity is associated with a weak disturbance, the same one that gave a few showers and thunderstorms yesterday, continues to slowly move west.

Because of the slow movement, heavy rain has been a factor this morning.  As of 9:30AM, Palestine has received 1.20" of rain officially.  The highest rainfall from our UT Health Science Center Weathernet was at Jacksonville HS with .60" of an inch, but reports in some locations have been between 1-2 inches.

Showers and scattered thunderstorms look to stay in the forecast through the remainder of the morning and into the afternoon.  This will help keep temperatures down as well.
