TYLER, TX (KLTV) - D'ray, 14, is a teenager who loves horses and baseball. Now, all he needs is a family to call his own.
D'ray got a special behind the scenes tour Tiger Creek Wildlife Refuge that let him get close enough to pet a lion! But his favorite was "Eightball", a black Asian Leopard. Unfortunately, he did not get to pet him.
D'ray says he loves to draw, listen to music and watch TV. Between striving for all A's on his report card, playing basketball, participating in FFA and doing chores, D'ray also finds time to care for and show horses.
He won a buckle last year at the world class horse show when he placed eighth in his division. More recently, he won a pair of boots!
"They had a scholarship for Jerry Wells Memorial so he had a show that day so I won my class so I got these boots," said D'ray.
He will need a family who can help him establish routines, who will model appropriate behaviors and will allow him to learn from his mistakes.
D'ray has a brother who has aged out of care. He would like to be able to keep in contact with his brother through phone calls and letters.
The soon to be freshman says no matter what, he is focused on his future.
"[I'd like to] be successful [and] have a nice house," said the 14 years old.
That future also includes college.
"I'm still deciding on Texas A&M or Texas Tech," said D'ray.
D'ray has found his calling with showing horses. Now, he just wants to find that forever family to call his own and show him the gift of love.
