Church graffitied, members pray for vandals

SMITH COUNTY, TX (KLTV) -

SMITH COUNTY, TX (KLTV) - Wednesday night, a Smith County congregation trying to decide what to do about some graffiti.

The pastor of National Revival Center says his church was tagged overnight by vandals who spray painted gang symbols and signs all over the building.

Pastor Billy Bivens says he is aware of gang activity in the neighborhood, but has never seen this done to a church. He says they will be praying for those responsible.

"It's just unbelievable that people would do this to a church, to a house of God, deface and vandalize a place of worship," said Bivens.

Pastor Bivens says there was no sign of forced entry, just the graffiti. Church members now have to find a why to clean it off but say this will not deter them.

The Smith County Sheriff's Department is investigating.
