UPDATE: Neighbor remembers child who died of heat

LONGVIEW, TX (KLTV) - LONGVIEW, TX (KLTV) - Just last week, a 2-year-old girl died after being left in a hot car.

Her father, Gabriel Bocanegra, was taken into custody after investigators determined he had left the toddler in the family suburban. He bailed out of the Gregg County Jail on a $20,000 bond.

Police say the little girl was left in the car nearly four hours, until a 13-year-old sibling found her.

The arrest affidavit states her body core temperature had reached 109 degrees. Neighbors say the incident was a tragic accident and the community is mourning her loss.

"[She had] curly hair, black, jet black hair," said Sandra Kisner, a neighbor. "[She was] a little bitty thing. She was pretty. Her momma is tore up about it. Really, really bad. She is carrying the babies picture with the blanket, just crying. All I could do was cry with her."

Bocanegra was charged with injury to a child. The grand jury must decide if he will stand trial for felony or be excused as an accident.
