FOCUS ON THE FAMILY SEEKING EVENTUAL REPLACEMENT FOR DOBSON

Focus on the Family has announced a "plan of succession" to eventually replace its founder -- James Dobson. In this month's letter to supporters, the 63-year-old Dobson says he's in good health and hopes to remain Focus's chief spokesman for at least another decade. But the evangelical ministry would like to find a candidate for that job in the next three years who would become an understudy to Dobson. The requirements include a "mature relationship with Jesus Christ and purity in personal life"; an advanced degree in a "helping science" such as psychology; thorough knowledge of the Bible and how it relates to family life and relationships; conservative views on Scripture, morals and culture; a good radio voice and interviewing skills; "a strong marriage with no lapses in moral behavior"; and "potential to serve as a moral and spiritual leader in the nation."
