TYLER, TX (KLTV) - Whitehouse Fire Chief Ronny Fite faces assault charges after being arrested Monday at the Smith County Sheriff's Office.
Records show that Fite, 50, was booked into the county jail around 4 p.m. where he remained for less than an hour before posting his $2,000 bond.
Smith County Sheriff's Lt. Tony Dana said if convicted Fite could face up to one year in the county jail and/or a fine not to exceed $4,000 for assault causing bodily injury, a class A misdemeanor. The incident behind the arrest remains under investigation, however, Dana did say Fite was arrested after an assault involving family violence.
Fite served the city of Whitehouse for more than 10 years as city manager and fire chief. Fite was forced to resign from his position as city manager in September of 2009. A prior request to be reassigned within the city in August was denied by city council.
