Family donates computers to hospital for Cystic Fibrosis patients

SMITH COUNTY, TX (KLTV) -

SMITH COUNTY, TX (KLTV) - Patients at the U.T. Health Science Center have new laptops after a donation from an East Texas family.

The Hallmark family, including KLTV 7's Joan Hallmark, lost 18-year-old Haley to Cystic Fibrosis last year. They said during her time in the hospital, her spirits were instantly lifted when she had access to a computer, so she could communicate with her friends, who couldn't visit her there. So Wednesday, the family donated two new laptops, so other CF patients can have that same access.

"She had actually raised some money for her lung transplant, and when she passed away, we tried to figure out the best way to utilize those funds, and we thought this would be the best way to help other kids like Haley," said Maryfrances Hallmark, Haley's mother.

Hallmark said that Haley needed ways to take her mind off of her disease and treatment, and the computers will provide that for other CF patients.
