NACOGDOCHES COUNTY, TX (KTRE) - An 8-year-old East Texas girl is hospitalized after a wreck that killed two of her sisters.

Eight-year-old Destiny Hardy was riding with her grandmother and her two sisters on Highway 21, west of Nacogdoches.

Investigators say the grandmother, Susan Hardy, 49, was driving a 2001 Dodge Neon eastbound when she was blinded by the sun. They say she failed to yield the right-of-way on a left-hand turn and was hit by a westbound log truck driven by Carl Allen Rogers of Apple Springs.

The grandmother and Destiny's sister Shayanne Hardy, 12, were pronounced dead at the scene at 8 p.m. Isabella Hardy, 7, was pronounced dead at 10:30 p.m. at a Nacogdoches hospital. Destiny had to be taken to a Houston hospital with multiple broken bones.

"They were just happy girls and had goals in their lives," said Donna Fergerson, the girls' mother. "They were everything in the world to me…I love them. I miss them."

Destiny is expected to make a full recovery. A family friend said she suffered two broken legs, two broken arms, a broken ankle and a fractured skull.

DPS says they were all wearing seatbelts.
