JACKSONVILLE, TX (KLTV) - Jacksonville, Texas is known for its tomatoes and word has spread all the way to the Food Network. Now, they are sending a crew to the Tomato Fest this weekend to try and break a record - the world's biggest bowl of salsa!
Kathleen Stanfill is a native of Jacksonville in the process of retiring from the Larissa House - the oldest house in Jacksonville. Until recently, it was a restaurant. Stanfill will be helping Bob Blumer, the man with the salsa plan.
Stanfill says Blumer will base his recipe on the way the locals make salsa and there are very stringent rules.
When the Food Network discovered several tomato capitols around the country, they had a dilemma, but Jacksonville residents know they made the right choice and are ready to prove it.
Anyone attending the 26th Annual Tomato Fest is encouraged to bring a container. They do not want a drop of the salsa to go to waste. Yes, they are giving it away.
