Officials in Murray, Utah, want the state Supreme Court to reconsider its ruling permitting an atheist to say a mocking prayer before City Council meetings. Tom Snyder filed a federal lawsuit when the city wouldn't let him pray, "Our Mother, who art in heaven." His invocation also seeks deliverance from "stupid politicians, who abuse power in their own self-righteousness." Snyder's lawyer says it would be unconstitutional for the city to regulate the content of prayers that are said before meetings. But attorneys for the city have filed a petition for rehearing because they say it's intolerable that a prayer should disparage religion.
