Longview's Juneteenth activities include Freedom Fun Run

LONGVIEW, TX (KLTV) -

LONGVIEW, TX - The City of Longview's Broughton Recreation Center, in conjunction with the Emancipation Day Celebration, will host the 29th Annual Juneteenth Freedom Fun Run on Saturday, June 12. The 5-kilometer race will start at 7:30 a.m. from Broughton Recreation Center, 801 M.L.K. Blvd. Check-in begins June 12 at 7:00 a.m. The Fun Run participation fee is $15.00 for pre-registration or $20.00 at the event.

Prizes will be awarded to the Top Male Overall Winner, Top Female Overall Winner, and Top Winners in each division. T-shirts will be given to the first sixty entrants. Age divisions for the Freedom Fun Run are as follows: 14 & under Boys and Girls; 15-19 Men & Women; 20-29 Men & Women; 30-39 Men & Women; 40-49 Men & Women; 50-59 Men & Women; 60-69 Men & Women; and 70-79 Men & Women.

Other Juneteenth activities, ranging from June 11 – June 26, include a parade, golf tournament, softball tournament, youth activities, food vendors, car show, gospel concert, and rodeo.

Broughton Recreation Center, under the supervision of the City of Longview Parks and Recreation Department, and in partnership with the Emancipation Day Celebration and the Juneteenth Activity Planning Committee, will host a variety of activities June 11 – June 26.

JUNETEENTH VENDOR SPACE

During the Juneteenth Park Activities, Longview area civic clubs, cultural groups, service and individuals are invited to take part in the day’s activities.  Vendor space in the park is available for display, food sales, carnival games, exhibits and demonstrations.  If you are interested in renting vendor space, contact Broughton Recreation Center at 903-237-1276.
