TYLER, TX (KLTV) - The message rang loud and clear, even as flags rested, silently at half-staff.
Dozens showed up to Rose Lawn Cemetery to pay tribute to the country's fallen servicemen and women.
Ken Muckelroy brought his trumpet. He's Texas State Director with Bugles Across America.
"We're proud of our organization, but we're mostly proud of our country and these people who have served," he said after playing Taps.
"I think each of us, whether we're in the military or not, has to remember freedom doesn't come cheaply," said Barbara Bass, mayor of the city of Tyler. "[Freedom] came because people gave of themselves - they gave of their lives."
