Gladewater hires Baugh

By Coleman Swierc

Gladewater, Texas (KLTV) - The Gladewater Bears have themselves a new head football coach and athletic director.

At a special board meeting today, Gladewater ISD approved the hiring of Jerrod Baugh to take over for departed Scott Callaway.

"It was tough to leave Longview," said Baugh, "But I knew when this job came available, that it was something I was interested in, and here we are."

Baugh comes to Gladewater after 10 years at Longview, the last six of which, he served at offensive coordinator for the Lobos.

"I want to bring alot of what we did in Longview to here," said Baugh, "They have similar athletes here as in Longview, and I want to do the same thing we did there, and that is win football games."

This is Baugh's first head coaching job.

"I am excited," said Baugh, "I wish I could tell you how I am going to feel when we first run out for the first game, but I really can't, but I can promise you, myself and the players are going to be ready."

Jackson is back for Lufkin.Jackson is back for Lufkin.

Like Longview, Lufkin is always talented. Before the Panthers begin District 12-6A action, they'll play a loaded East Texas schedule featuring the Lobos in week 1, followed by Nacogdoches and John Tyler. Normally a 7 and 4 campaign would be considered a success, but not in Panther nation. In fact, despite making the playoffs every year, Lufkin hasn't advanced past the first round since 2012.

Our Red Zone Rundown continues with the other two Class 6A programs in East Texas. In District 11-6A with John Tyler and Tyler Lee, who we featured Monday night, Longview figures to challenge for the league title in 2017. In fact, the Lobos and Lions shared the district championship a year ago. It's no secret, Longview is used to winning and it does so by running the football and playing sound defense.
