Lufkin man, 59, pleads guilty to child porn charges

LUFKIN, Texas –  A 59-year-old Lufkin, Texas man has pleaded guilty to child pornography violations in the Eastern District of Texas announced U.S. Attorney John M. Bales today.

Philip Charles Taylor pleaded guilty to an indictment charging him with possession of child pornography today before U.S. Magistrate Judge Earl Hines.

According to information presented in court, on Jan. 26, 2010, law enforcement officers made contact with Taylor after receiving information that Taylor was viewing child pornography in a Lufkin motel room with at least one child present.  Officers received consent to search Taylor's computer and several DVDs found in the room and discovered nine videos of minors involved in sexually explicit conduct.  Some of the videos depicted children less than 12 years of age engaged in sadistic or masochistic conduct.  Taylor was indicted by a federal grand jury on Mar. 17, 2010.

This case is being brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse launched in May 2006 by the Department of Justice. Led by United States Attorneys' Offices and the Criminal Division's Child Exploitation and Obscenity Section (CEOS), Project Safe Childhood marshals federal, state and local resources to better locate, apprehend and prosecute individuals who exploit children via the Internet, as well as to identify and rescue victims. Taylor faces up to 10 years in federal prison.  A sentencing date has not been set. 

This cases is being investigated by the U.S. Secret Service and the Lufkin Police Department and prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Christopher T. Tortorice and Reynaldo P. Morin.
