TYLER, TX (KLTV) -   Three East Texas softball players were honored on Tuesday to help jump start the Division III World Series at Mike Carter Field in Tyler.  The NJCAA World Series Committee with sponsorship help from Austin Bank, selected three inaugural recipients to the Sara Jo Murff Scholarship.  Murff is the widow of the late Red Murff.  Murff was a professional baseball player, coach and scout.  He's credited as the man who found Nolan Ryan.

The three recipients were Emily Costlow (Whitehouse), Megan Dowdy (Troup) and Mollie Mink (Chapel Hill).  The girls accomplishments had Mrs. Murff beaming with a smile.

"She was so nice and she talked about him (Red Murff) and what great students we were and some of her life," said Costlow.  "I really enjoyed talking to her. I think it honors not only softball but the quality of person that the Murffs were and that also high school students can look forward to."
