HEMPHILL, TX (KTRE) - The Sabine County Sheriff's Office is investigating what a medical examiner's office is calling a homicide in the death of a 22-month-old girl.
According to Sheriff Tom Maddox, the toddler died Saturday at 12:02 a.m. at Houston hospital. Maddox said the toddler's father's girlfriend brought her to a Hemphill hospital around noon last Thursday. Authorities say the toddler suffered burns from what appeared to be a heating iron, bite marks, and severe head trauma.
Maddox said the toddler suffered the injuries at her father's trailer house, which has no power, at Henry Drive in Hemphill.
Maddox did not reveal the toddler's name and said the case is under investigation.
