LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - Authorities believe wet roads may have played a role in a late night accident in Lufkin. It happened just before 11 Monday night at the intersection of u-s highway 59 and college drive.
Lufkin police say an 18-wheeler slammed into a small Toyota car. The driver of the rig tried to avoid the collision, but clipped a traffic- light- pole. It was ripped from the ground and dragged hundreds of feet.
Emergency crews had to pull the driver of the Toyota from his car. He was treated for minor injuries at a Lufkin hospital. The driver of the 18-wheeler was not injured.
Crews spent several hours cleaning up debris from the wreck. Police say no citations will be issued until they check red-light camera photos. In the meantime, police say TX-DOT has placed cones and caution signs at the intersection.
We're told a stop sign will be used until the traffic light can be replaced.
