New HS theatre director hired for Pine Tree

LONGVIEW, TX (KLTV) - Released by the Pine Tree ISD:

LONGVIEW, TX - Pine Tree ISD has hired theatre director David W. McWhirter to lead the award winning theatre program for Pine Tree High School next year. Micah Goodding, who has been with the district for two years and led the current company to state level competition, announced his resignation earlier in the year with plans to move to Chicago.

McWhirter earned a Bachelors of Arts in Speech and Theatre at Middle Tennessee State University. He is currently working on a Master's Degree at the University of Houston. Most recently he has worked at the McKinney North High School theatre program where he served as the Director of Theatre since 2004. While at McKinney, McWhirter taught grades 9-12 theatre arts – Theatre I, Production I-IV, Advanced Production I-IV, and Technical Theatre I-IV. During his tenure, he directed 2 main stage and 1 black box production each year, he served as director of traveling improvisation troupe of the 3 high schools in the district, the director of Thespian Troupe #6460 and annually included Showcase Theatre productions as well as the UIL One Act Play. From 1998-2004, McWhirter taught theatre arts in the Dowell Middle School.

McWhirter will be introduced at the PT High School's annual Drama night, held on Friday, May 21st in the High School Theatre. The event, which spotlights the students in the program and provides a review of the year's events, begins at 7 p.m. with recognition of the new Thespian members.
