That oil tank fire in Longview yesterday is giving Gregg County a chance to look at how it would deal with fires at the many larger oil fields in the county. A lightning strike is blamed for the fire that burned 120 barrels of crude oil. When the flames became too much crews backed down and let the fire burn itself out. Authorities are now taking a closer look at that response, to see what they can learn, should a similar fire break out at one of the city's larger storage facilities in or near residential neighborhoods. Several people who lived near the blaze were evacuated but no injuries were reported.
