Teen dies from injuries after motorcycle crash

LONGVIEW, TX (KLTV) - Released by the Longview Police Department:

LONGVIEW, TX - On May 5, 2010 at around 3:43 p.m., Longview Officers were dispatched to the intersection of Oakdale Street and Hutchings Boulevard for a report of a motorcycle crash.

Witnesses told arriving officers that 19-year-old Lacorian Owens was eastbound in the 500 block of Oakdale Street on a Kawasaki dirt bike at a high rate of speed, when he disregarded the stop sign at Hutchings Boulevard. Owens attempted to avoid striking a 2007 Honda Civic that was southbound on Hutchings Boulevard and laid the motorcycle down before it struck the car.

Owens was ejected from the motorcycle during the crash and the Longview Fire Department/EMS transported him to Good Shepherd Medical Center with life-threatening injuries.

Longview Police Traffic Investigators were notified on May 12, 2010 that Owens died at the hospital as a result of his injuries on May 10, 2010. No one else was injured in the crash.
