LONGVIEW, TX (KLTV) - LONGVIEW, TX (KLTV) - Spring Hill ISD is enhancing security on their campuses.
The district's board of trustees voted to hire a school resource officer. The decision comes after parents in the district met to discuss the need for more security at the campuses. Parents said there have been several unreported incidents of bullying and fights at school.
The school district says the security measures are being taken due to the schools growing population. They will work with the Longview Police Department to contract an officer.
"This is an area that we feel like is a need and we want to provide a safe and secure environment for our kids and our staff and our community and we feel like it is good timing of it," said Wes Jones, the Spring Hill ISD superintendent.
A final contract for the officer will be voted on in June. The estimated cost to the district is $47,000 a year.
