"Hearts and Hands Across Tyler " Dinner

It was a night for recognizing some of those who work to improve the lives of East Texas children. More than 200 people filled Harvey Convention Center Tuesday night for the Mental Health Association's 7th annual "Hearts and Hands Across Tyler" banquet. Each year, it honors individuals who have contributed to the welfare of children.

This year's "Humanitarian of The Year Award" recipient is Brookshire's Grocery Company for its support of programs benefiting area youngsters. Brad Brookshire says, "It's a great organization. They do a lot of good things, mentoring with children, boys and girls in Tyler and really in East Texas, and so it's something we're very honored to be a part of."

The Mental Health Association selects its honoree for their love, compassion and concern for children and youth from all economic, cultural, ethnic and religious backgrounds.

Tuesday's banquet is the major fundraiser for the Mental Health Association benefiting the organizations youth service programs. They include the Big Brothers Big Sisters, the At-Risk Mentoring Program and WHO (elementary anti victimization education.)
