TYLER, TX (KLTV) - Leslie Pruitt was taken prisoner by German soldiers only weeks after landing in Normandy in World War II. Ironically, he was then to receive serious wounds from artillery shells before reaching the German prison camp and was to remain in a French hospital until Patton's army came through and the Germans retreated.
Pruitt is one of more than 30 World War II veterans chosen for Brookshire's World War II Heroes Flight to Washington and the WWII Memorial May 11th and 12th.
Pruitt says seeing the memorial will remind him of comrades left behind in war and how very close he came to being left behind, too.
