RED SPRINGS, TX (KLTV) -

RED SPRINGS, TX (KLTV) - It was a rude awakening for a Smith County man Thursday morning, as he realized his camper truck was on fire with him in it!

Fire crews were called before 7 a.m. Thursday to the fire near Red Springs.

Harold McCoy awoke in the camper, saw that his truck was ablaze and managed to escape unharmed. But, within minutes, the truck and camper were destroyed.

Investigators believe an electrical short caused the blaze.

McCoy's son tells KLTV that 20 years ago McCoy was involved in a mobile home explosion that left him with burns on his body and destroyed everything he owned.

A fund has been set up at City National Bank of Hawkins in Harold McCoy's name.
