TYLER, TX (KLTV) - One East Texas city plans on planting 5,000 trees in five years. Friday, the city of Tyler announced they have officially been designated an official Tree City U.S.A.
A ceremonial tree planting was held on the grounds of the city hall to mark the beginning of the mayor's Tree Tyler initiative.
ETMC held there own tree planting ceremony to encourage Tylerites to help reach the community tree planting goal.
"People want to make sure we preserve that heritage and the beauty, and the citizens have asked the city to be part of that we are in turn saying we are willing to do are part and we need the citizens to step forward to do their part," said Mayor Barbara Bass.
TXU has stepped forward as the first corporate sponsor of the mayor's Tree Tyler initiative with a donation of 105 trees.
