UPDATE: Trooper involved in shooting identified

CASS COUNTY, TX (KLTV) - UPDATE 04/30/2010: DPS has released the name of the trooper involved a shooting Wednesday. They say Trooper Jonathan Daniel Britton shot Jesse Lansdale, 27, after pulling him over. DPS has not given any specific details about the shooting, but the Texas Rangers are investigating. Lansdale is in the hospital listed in critical condition.

CASS COUNTY, TX (KLTV) - According to DPS Trooper Sylvia Jennings, around 7:45 p.m. Wednesday, a trooper shot a man after the man lunged at him with a knife. It happened near a rest stop on U.S. Highway 59, just north of Linden in Cass County.

Authorities are not yet releasing the identity of the trooper involved, but they say he was on patrol duty at the time of the incident.

Jennings says Jesse Alton Lansdale was airlifted to ETMC in Tyler. His condition is unknown at this time, but we do know he is in the surgical ICU.

Rangers are investigating the shooting.
