Killer of 2 denied execution appeal

HENDERSON COUNTY, TX (KLTV) - HENDERSON COUNTY, TX (KLTV) - An East Texas man convicted of killing two sheriff's deputies still faces execution after his appeal was denied.

Randall Wayne Mays shot and killed Henderson County deputies Tony Ogburn and Paul Habelt in May of 2007, and was given the death penalty.

His defense team appealed the case to the Texas court of criminal appeals, based on what they say were 21 points of error in the original case. But, the appeals court unanimously denied the appeal.
