Brookshire's giving even more to East Texas Food Bank

TYLER, TX (KLTV) -

TYLER, TX (KLTV) - Wednesday Brookshire's Grocery Company announced a significant addition to their partnership with the East Texas Food Bank. The seven Brookshire's stores participating in the store donation program has now been upgraded to an additional 39 stores. The program sends trucks to collect nutritious foods that would have been discarded but can now be used to feed hungry people.

"These are all foods that are very difficult for us to get," explained Dennis Cullinane, the director of the ETFB. "Often, high quality proteins produce baked goods [are] just running close to out of date but they're all very very wholesome and useful and they're in very high demand by our agencies."

Since October 2008 Brookshire's grocery stores have provided more than 130,000 pounds of food to the East Texas Food Bank. The addition of the new stores will more than quadruple their current donations.
