SMITH COUNTY, TX (KLTV) - Federal officials announced, Wednesday, oil site explosions are becoming a growing concern across the country.
The U.S. Chemical Safety and Hazard Investigation Board announced it is now looking into the Monday's deadly blast near New London.
The CSB said the tank battery site off Rusk County Rd. 111 was not well-secured.
Funeral services were held, Wednesday afternoon for Melissa Helsel-Williams who was found dead on-scene.
Authorities said Williams' friend, Joseph Crisp, was blown almost 200 feet from the blast site.
He remains in fair condition at a Shreveport hospital.
The CSB reports 36 teenagers and six adults have died in similar oil site explosions since 1983.
