TYLER, TX (KLTV) - Hundreds of East Texas children are worn-out after a fun-filled day of learning and playing at the Discovery Science Place. A local company hosted a free Kids Day Festival there, bringing families and the community closer together.
They donated their time and services to put a smile on their little faces. April 30th is Children's Day in Mexico and Michael Mangrum's company has brought it here to East Texas.
"What we're trying to do is let people see the good side of the Latin American culture and anyone can come out," said Mangrum. "We've had people from all different races and cultures today."
And free for struggling families.
"We are thankful for everybody for doing this," said mother Angela Scott.
Kids learned from real-life exchanges; getting a taste of the grown-up world and history, through hands-on training.
"It helps people know what's around the world and what's been here, what is here right now, what scientists are doing and discovering," said visitor Lauren Harris.
For many, it was their first trip and an eye-opener for children hungry to learn.
"I really like the boat cause I think it's about the Titanic that went down a long time ago and I feel very proud cause I've never been here," said Dallana Estrada.
Perhaps the sweetest part was bonding time for busy families.
"The best thing about it is I usually come here with my dad that I barely get to see," said Alanis Harris.
The Kids Day Festival is hosted by New England Financial. They do plan to have it next year as well.
