Longview officer injured in suspect pursuit

LONGVIEW, TX (KLTV) - Longview Police Officer Paul Montoya suffered injuries to his left elbow following a chase and fight, Thursday night.

It happened around 8 p.m. at the Village South Apartments on South Green Street.

Rodrick Lennon Taylor, 37, of Longview was arrested and booked into Gregg County Jail.  He's charged with assault on a public servant, resisting and evading arrest, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

According to the police statement, Montoya was responding to a disturbance call at the apartment complex.  Authorities said several people, including Taylor, were trying to hide behind cars in the parking lot.  Taylor took off on foot.

Montoya chased the suspect through a wooded area and into creek.  Officer Montoya eventually caught up with Taylor on nearby Marion Street.

Police said the suspect threw a bag into a nearby ditch during the scuffle.  Other officers later discovered several items of drug paraphernalia inside the bag.
