LINDALE, TX (KLTV) - LINDALE, TX (KLTV) - An East Texas high school group found a creative way to celebrate Earth Day.
Lindale High School's, debate team hung plastic bags from the doors of English and Math classes.
The goal was to make students aware of the disruption plastic bags cause for creatures in the ocean and on land.
They also hosted a Support a Coral Reef presentation asking students to carpool, and wore green.
"We need to be the people that make the change because it will be ours and we need to know how to do this and what the problems are so we can fix it in the future," said Nick Seawright, a senior.
"We only recycle 5% of all of what we throw away," said Katie Irwin, a senior. "We are wanting to bring awareness for all of what we throw away."
It takes a thousand years for one plastic bag to disintegrate.
