UT Tyler unveils new student center

TYLER, TX (KLTV) - TYLER, TX (KLTV) - The University of Texas at Tyler unveiled their new student center Wednesday. Construction started in January of 2009 and was just completed last month. The new center features a Subway, Chick-fil-a, a Starbucks, and even a Barnes and Noble Book Store.

U.T. Tyler officials feel they have met many needs of on-campus students.

"In addition, we have collected our student services here," said Dr. Rodney Mabry, U.T. Tyler President. "So there's a testing center, student government offices, the advising center...so it's a one-stop shopping place for students."

"I have a car, but I have a lot of friends that don't so having a Subway in here, having a Chick-fil-a in here, it's great," said Yasbeth Ochoa.

Most of the funding for the building came from the student body, who thought a slight tuition increase was well worth it.
