Forgery suspects arrested, drug chemicals seized

LONGVIEW, TX - On Tuesday April 13, 2010 at approximately 4:15 p.m., Longview Police Detective Brixey Lewis was working an off-duty security job at Texas Bank and Trust at 300 East Whaley Street, when he was made aware that a woman in the bank was attempting to cash a forged check.

The suspect, Laurie Ann Lester, attempted to leave the bank to a waiting vehicle in the parking lot, but additional officers arrived at the scene to assist Detective Lewis and Lester was apprehended. Officers spoke with Michael Alford, who drove Lester to the bank, and found he was in possession of marijuana.

Alford was arrested and upon conducting an inventory of Alford's vehicle, numerous chemicals and equipment for manufacturing methamphetamine were located inside. The Gregg County Organized Drug Enforcement (CODE) Unit responded to the location and safely removed the chemicals and equipment from the vehicle.

Both Laurie Lester and Michael Alford were booked into the Gregg County Jail.

Laurie Ann Lester, date of birth 1-16-1965, of 1809 Green Street Longview.
Charges: Forgery (State jail felony) and possession/transport of precursor chemicals for the manufacture of methamphetamine (2nd degree felony).

Michael Eldon Alford, date of birth 2-4-1959, of 408 ½ Electra Street Longview.
Charges: Possession of marijuana (Class B misdemeanor) and possession/transport of precursor chemicals for the manufacture of methamphetamine (2nd degree felony).
