TYLER & WACO, TX (KLTV) - Waco I.S.D. is in shock today, after girls basketball coach Azure Love-Davis died late Monday night. Love-Davis is a Tyler native and the daughter of former John Tyler basketball coach Carl Love. Waco High School Assistant Girls Basketball Coach Ross Barber said Love-Davis check into a Waco hospital on Monday. He said he saw no signs that something was wrong. Barber added that they still don't know the cause of death.
Love-Davis, used to be an assistant coach at Tyler I.S.D. She moved to Waco five years ago and spent the last two years as girls head basketball coach at Waco High School.
"We were more then colleague's, we were friends," said Barber, also a Tyler native. "And it's a tough loss. She was a mother and daughter and a good friend to me as well as a mentor. I'm young just starting my coaching career. I definitely thank God for the time I've got to spend with her."
Barber says the funeral will be Saturday in Waco. Love-Davis leaves a husband and two daughters.
