TYLER, TEXAS (KLTV) -   One of the best basketball players in East Texas will not have to go very far to play his college ball.  John Tyler standout Jaron Johnson signed with Tyler Junior College Thursday morning.  It's great for the Apaches who add another local star.  Johnson knows he'll always have a cheering section at T.J.C.

"It was very exciting," said Johnson.  "I'll see the same fans, play in front of my family and grandparents."

T.J.C. Head Coach Mike Marquis said he knew Johnson would be great when he was little kid.

"It's fun to watch him play," said Marquis.  "He's got a great smile. I've known his since he was 9 or 10 years old, so it was like bringing in another family member."

Johnson was the district offensive player of the year for the Lions averaging 16 points per game.
