Community Spotlight – Sexual Assault Victims Service Organizations

EAST TEXAS - April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month in our nation and the ever-growing problem of sexual assault has a few surprises that you may not have known.  For instance, in Texas one in five women and one in twenty men are victims of sexual assault at some point in their lifetime.  Most victims are assaulted by someone they know and not some stranger on the street.  As a community, with facts like that staring us in the face, we should all recognize and act on this problem.  That is why a group of organizations that deal with safe-haven and recovery for victims of sexual assault is KLTV's Community Spotlight for April.  The East Texas Crisis Center, The Women's Center of East Texas, The Crisis Center of Anderson and Cherokee Counties and The Kilgore Community Crisis Center are all caring, quality organizations committed to ending sexual assaults in our area.  Now most of these groups do so much more than provide a place for victims to go.  They have programs designed to prevent and intervene to break the cycle of sexual assault.  Several offer resale shops and supply closets to help victims move towards independence.  So you can help by making a monetary donation but you can also contribute clothing and supplies to help victims get back on their feet.  The websites of these organizations are listed below.  Helping victims of sexual assault, a commitment shared by the organizations that make up KLTV's Community Spotlight for April, making this a Better East Texas.
