TYLER, TX (KLTV) - Only 13-years-old, an East Texan was just walking to school when she was approached by a possible child predator. Tyler police said it happened around 7:30 Monday morning, where Tubbs Street dead ends.

The 13-year-old victim was walking to Stewart Middle School which is just a couple of blocks away. We're told she sometimes takes the trail at the end of the street as a short cut.

"[I am] afraid for her," said the victim's uncle who did not want to be identified.

The young girl was alone when a man yelled for her to come over to his car.

"She said, 'No,' and he got out of the car and said, 'You know me.'" Officer Don Martin, public information officer with the Tyler Police Department said the victim ran away and told an adult. The police were later notified.

"If it happened one time, it's possible that it could happen again," said the 13-year-old's uncle.

Monday's incident is the second time in less than a month involving a young Tyler teenager and a suspicious suspect. A 16-year-old Tyler girl was walking in her neighborhood in March when an older man drove up behind her, offered her a ride and then asked her for sex.

"Anytime someone attempts to lure someone into a car, it's a great concern to us," said Martin.

"He's a straight up pervert," said Lisa Williams.

Williams lives on Tubbs Street. She said kids use the trail all the time, but sadly, times have changed.

"You can't leave your door open, you can't let your kids run about anymore," she said. "It's not safe. Period."

Tyler police say the victim did the right thing by running to the nearest safe place and telling an adult.

The suspect is described as a heavy-set black male, in his thirties. He was driving a brown or gray car and wearing a white t-shirt and black pants. The incident is still under investigation.
