GRESHAM, TX (KLTV) - Dale Boxburger was only 15 when he began his long career in the military, serving in the Army, the Navy, and the Air Force. After a series of accidents aboard an aircraft carrier convinced Boxburger to look for a safer job, he thought he had found it in the Air Force. But then, Vietnam came along.
An aircraft mechanic and flight engineer, Boxburger had to get his C130 ready and then board it for missions. In one week's time, Boxburger's plane completed 28 missions, stopping only to refuel. It often flew only four to five feet above the ground dropping its supplies when areas were under bombardment. Boxburger was awarded the prestigious Air Medal for his bravery.
After 22 years in the military, Dale Boxburger has had only one regret, the shameful way Vietnam Veterans were treated by many in the American public.
