1,000,000 year old monument honors coaching legend

LONGVIEW, TX (KLTV) -

LONGVIEW, TX (KLTV) - It was a dedication for one of Longview's Park Trails, with ties to a Texas football coaching legend. A celebration to the improved entrance to Cargill Long Park Trail on north Forth Street was held Thursday morning.

The mayor and guests were on hand for the donation of a monument and a large ornamental rock, estimated to be over 1,000,000 years old by Texas A&M.

The rock is dedicated in honor of Dallas Cowboys coach Tom Landry.

"Congratulations on the dedication and completion of the community's project," said Father Gavin Vaverek, with St. Mary's Catholic Church. "May it continue to inspire you to pull together on project for the benefit of citizens in the future, with best regards Tom Landry, Jr."

The rock will be inscribed with a quote from Hebrews, "Let us run with endurance the race that is set before us."
