TYLER, TX (KLTV) - Dez is a fun, loving 5th grader who loves to play video games and go to church. Now, he just wants a family to show him the gift of love.
An afternoon at the Boys and Girls Club allowed Dez and I to brush up on our game skills. The 12-year-old loves math and science and likes to see how it works in the real world. But, reading and social studies? Not so much.
"I like to ride bikes," said Dez. "Sometimes I like to watch T.V. - like cops, and stuff with diesels like Trick My Truck."
In fact, that is what Dez says he would like to do when he grows up: drive a big truck.
"I like the thing in the truck where you get to honk, honk, honk," said Dez. "It's so fun and the whole part of it is I like traveling."
Dez says he would like to discover the world through his travels and really wants to see a volcano and one day visit China. Dez also likes to swim, go to the movies and play football and dreams of playing ball at Texas Tech. He would like to be a police officer one day.
"I made up a lot of things about cops and what they should do," said Dez.
When it comes to his forever family, he wants brothers and sisters.
"I would like a family with brothers and sisters that are older than me," said Dez. "I don't like being the boss of little kids and stuff like that. I like being the younger one."
He wants siblings he can look up to. A family for Dez will need to be patient and be able to provide lots of help with things like homework and peer interaction.
"I would like to have just a regular family," said Dez.
Dez likes to have a lot of attention and needs to know that people care about him. He is currently in counseling and responds well to positive reinforcement. As for Dez's three wishes, would like.
"A real family, someone to look up to, you get one more...and be a super hero," said Dez.
Or, at least a family that will make this amazing boy feel like a super hero when they show him the gift of love.
