BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - Detectives say a man who forced his way into a Baton Rouge apartment Tuesday night ended up getting shot to death by someone inside.

According to the East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff's Office, Charles Beardon, 18, was shot and killed during a home invasion at the Chateau Wein apartments on Siegen Lane just before 10 p.m. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Deputies said the shooting was justifiable.

DeCourie Jackson, 18, and Kyle Hawkins, 19, of Baton Rouge and Raisha Snell, 18, of Port Allen were arrested in connection with the incident. Deputies said Beardon, Jackson, Hawkins and Snell planned to raid the victims' home. Snell knew one of the people who lived in the apartment and told her alleged accomplices they usually had cash on them.

Deputies reported Snell sent a text to one of the victims and went inside the apartment. They said once she was inside, she sent a text to the other three suspects letting them know how many people were inside. Before the three rushed into the apartment, Snell went into the bathroom with one of the victims.

Investigators said Jackson, Hawkins and Beardon knocked on the door and when it was partially opened they rushed in with bandannas over their faces and Beardon carrying a shotgun. After one person was forced to the floor, another started fighting with Beardon. Deputies said during the scuffle the shotgun was fired and one person was hit, but the wound was not life-threatening.

Detectives said that's when another person in the apartment grabbed a pistol and shot Beardon. They said Hawkins was also shot, but Jackson helped him to the hospital. The wound was not life-threatening.

Authorities said Snell stayed in the bathroom the whole time and left after the shooting stopped. She later turned herself in to deputies. They arrested Jackson at the hospital. Hawkins was treated and released to detectives. All three were booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison on four counts of principal to attempted first-degree murder, four counts of armed robbery and home invasion.
