Burglar used garage door opener to gain entry say police


Released by the Tyler Police Department:

TYLER, TX - On Tuesday, March 30, 2010, Tyler Police responded to the 3100 block of Arbor Oak Drive on a report of a residential burglary that occurred during the middle of the night while the residents slept. 

The suspect(s) broke into the victim's vehicle that was parked in the driveway sometime between 11:00 p.m. and 3:00 a.m.  The suspect(s) went through the vehicle looking for items to take, located the garage door opener and then used it gain entry into the garage.  The suspect(s) went into the garage, gained entry into a second vehicle and took a women's purse that contained cash, ID and credit cards.  The suspect(s) then entered the victim's home through the garage inner door and went through many drawers in the kitchen area.

The suspect(s) left the residence without being detected by the home owners.

The police department would like to warn citizens against leaving garage door openers in a vehicle that is parked outside the residence overnight.  We also encourage you to secure your inner door to your residence from the garage by locking it when you retire for the night.

Anyone with information about the suspects involved in this crime are urged to contact the Tyler Police Department, at 903-531-1000, or Crimestoppers, at 903-597-CUFF (903-597-2833).  Crimestoppers will pay up to $1,000 for information that leads to the arrest and charges filed against the suspects in this case, or any, felony case.
