Whitehouse community rallies to help fire victims

WHITEHOUSE, TX (KLTV) - A follow up on the efforts to help an east Texas family of six who lost all they had in a house fire earlier this week.

A family friend, Melissa Smith, cooked all night Friday baking hundreds of desserts for a benefit bake sale in Whitehouse. This is all to help Jeremy and Tisha Coon and their four young children, whose home burned to the ground Tuesday.

Saturday, Melissa says they raised several hundred dollars and that it's a blessing to see the community coming together.

"We've had a lot of people come up and bring donations and I just loaded them up in the truck and we're going to go see Tisha this afternoon," said Smith. "We've got kids bringing toys cause they want other kids to have toys and people bringing diapers and all that just to help out so it's just been an amazing turnout."

There's also a tragedy fund set up for the Coon family if you'd like to help out through monetary donations. It's under "Jeremy and Tisha Coon" at any Southside Bank location.
