Suspicious item found in Longview, taken by ATF

LONGVIEW, TX (KLTV) -

Released by the Longview PD:

LONGVIEW, TX - On March 26, 2010 at around 10:11 a.m., Longview Officers were dispatched to Salem Court at Lafayette Drive for a report of a suspicious looking object lying in the roadway.

Officers arrived and located a small, 10-12 inch item, wrapped in tape with what appeared to be a fuse protruding from the end. Concerned the item may be explosive or hazardous, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms (ATF) was contacted and they responded to the scene.

ATF Agents seized the item and informed investigators that it was a very crude type of device that possibly could have made noise or had a "sparkling" effect if ignited.

At no time was anyone in danger during the incident and the investigation into who left the item in the street is ongoing.
