TYLER, TX (KLTV) - We are learning more about the East Texan killed in a motorcycle accident Tuesday night. Derrick Masenburge, 36, also known as "Captain Nook", was an Army recruiter in Tyler.

Tyler police said he was riding his motorcycle on Broadway when he crashed into the passenger side of an SUV. Masenburge was wearing a helmet.

Friends say Masenburge was well known in the community. He leaves behind a wife and two sons.

"He was known in high school as just a funny guy to make you laugh," said Irma Schultz, Masenburge's friend. "I never saw his temper. He was just a cool, outgoing man. He always, always enforced the Army."

Fort Hood is working with Masenburge's family on funeral arrangements. His family plans to hold the funeral Saturday.
