Carrier suggests changes to Tyler plant

TYLER, TX (KLTV) -

TYLER, TX (KLTV) - It has been confirmed. Up to 250 East Texans could soon be losing their jobs. Carrier Corporation has acknowledged big changes could be coming to their Tyler plant.

Citing a 40% loss of business in the last three years, corporate representatives say they are considering moving four lines to carrier's plant in Monterrey, Mexico.

"Carrier Corporation is considering closing some small rooftop and small splits manufacturing lines at it's Tyler, Texas plant," said a representative. "These actions are consistent with carrier's cost reduction efforts in response to a severe downturn in the market."

The communications representative went on to say under the proposal lines being considered for closure are four assembly lines along with sheet metal and coil shops.

Carrier corporate is holding talks with sheet metal workers unions on the national and local levels.
