TYLER, TX (KLTV) - This September will mark the 9th Anniversary of the 9-11 attacks on the United States. Even now, the work continues to rebuild at ground zero. In fact, just a few days ago, some of the work started right in East Texas.

Pat Baldwin has an important job as quality manager for Tyler Pipe.

It is Baldwin's job to make sure the 48,000 tons - the 1.2 million pieces of pipe that will be shipped out this year - are as close to perfect as possible. Especially one particular batch.

"We're proud of everything we make...we were proud, more, of this particular project," said Baldwin.

He says that a few weeks ago, a contractor made a special request for more than 600 pieces of 2, 3, 4 and 6-inch drain pipes.

"The pipe speaks for itself," said Baldwin. "We didn't have to say a word. We just had to put it on there."

"We will never forget September 11, 2001" is stamped on the side of the Tyler Pipe that will, fittingly, run through floors 9-11 of one World Trade Center.

Once finished, "Freedom Tower" will be tallest building in America at more than 1,700 feet high.

"It wasn't something we did to showcase us, so much as it was to showcase the event, to honor the event, to memorialize the event," said Baldwin.

Baldwin says he was at work when he got word of the attacks. He says production at the plant pretty much, shut down as the events unfolded.

"People around the country still remember...still share the feeling that we did on 9-11-01," said Baldwin. "This is not only an extension of Tyler Pipe, it's an extension of the community."

It is a tall order, but Baldwin says he and every East Texan should be proud to fill.

Not only will Tyler Pipe be providing those special commemorative pipes, for floors 9-11, but pipe throughout the entire building.
