'Eggceptional' donation

TYLER, TX (KLTV) - You might say they are giving the Easter bunny something to smile about, and lots of hungry East Texans, too.

Feather Crest Farms and Pilgrim's Pride made the largest egg donation ever to the East Texas Food Bank Tuesday morning. The farmers shipped in more than 118,000 eggs, which will provide protein for malnourished East Texans just in time for Easter.

"We have some very poor people out there and they never have access to eggs and it's so important in their diet and we try to get them to eat healthy," said Lucille Skipper, with the Centerville Food Pantry.

"Protein items are some of the most difficult for the East Texas Food Bank to acquire so we are just so grateful for Feather Crest Farms and Pilgrim's Pride to donating eggs to the East Texas Food Bank," said Karolyn Davis, with the East Texas Food Bank.

The Food Bank has seen a 90% increase in East Texans seeking emergency food needs in the last few years. They say any donations are appreciated.
